My Journey from giant Tech Hubs: HOLA VPN, Luminati and Brightdata to Creating Data-OnTap

When I first joined HOLA VPN, Luminati and soon thereafter Brightdata - powerhouses in the data and corporate intelligence space, I thought I had finally found the perfect alignment for my professional experience as a corporate strategist. With over 100 clients under my belt, I had spent years helping businesses bridge the gap between corporate strategy and design, using marketing insights and business intelligence to breathe life into a brand.
Working with tech companies that specialized in data—the raw material of modern marketing—seemed like a dream come true.
At the time, these companies were at a pivotal moment. They were poised to move from niche data providers to mainstream players, riding the wave of increasing demand for data-driven business decisions which grew exponentially during the COVID years. I saw tremendous potential in leveraging their technology to help marketers and corporate strategists make smarter, faster decisions. But as I settled into my roles, I started to see the cracks in the facade.
The problem wasn’t the technology—far from it. These companies had robust infrastructures, powerful proxy networks, advanced scraping tools, and APIs capable of delivering rich datasets. The issue lay in how these tools were being marketed and, more importantly, who was in charge of the message. The companies were predominantly run by tech-minded engineers, whose brilliance in creating data solutions was unmatched, but whose approach to positioning these solutions for a marketing audience was lacking.
For most marketers, corporate strategists, and business decision-makers, the appeal of data lies in its ability to answer questions and uncover opportunities. They want insights—not technical headaches. Yet, the prevailing message from these data companies involved jargon-heavy discussions about APIs, proxy networks, coding requirements, and the technical nuances of data scraping. The user experience was daunting for anyone without a programming (or at least, some technical) background.
I began to realize that what the market needed wasn’t just access to data but access to data in a way that was frictionless and intuitive for non-technical professionals. Marketers didn’t want to learn how to scrape data themselves. They wanted the data delivered to them, ready for analysis and action. They wanted data solutions that spoke their language, offering simplicity and clarity rather than complexity and code.
That’s when I knew there was a gap in the market—an opportunity to build something better. With Data-OnTap, my vision was to create a solution that would give marketers and strategists exactly what they needed: high-quality, customized data without the need to navigate technical obstacles. We focused on delivering data solutions that are as easy to use as they are powerful, backed by expert customer support that understands both the technical and business sides of the equation.
Our approach at Data-OnTap is simple: we handle all the technical heavy lifting. Whether it’s scraping, managing proxy networks, or dealing with APIs, we manage the backend so our clients can focus on turning data into strategy. It’s a streamlined approach that puts data into the hands of those who need it most, without the hassle.
Looking back, my experiences at HOLA VPN and Brightdata were invaluable. They showed me the incredible potential of data-driven technology but also highlighted the need for a marketer-first mindset in the industry. “With Data-OnTap, I’m excited to bring a fresh perspective to the market—one that prioritizes simplicity, usability, and real business impact over tech jargon and complexity”.
